Kirk was born on 9th December 1916 in Amsterdam, New York. Kirk was known for his cleft chin and distinctive voice. He grew up as the son of Russian-Jewish in a poor family. Kirk worked odd jobs to fulfill his college fees. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Kirk struggled a lot to gain the position of a well-known actor.

He had a very unhappy childhood. He had an abusive father who used to drink a lot and left very little money for him and his mother. Kirk was interested in acting since he performed the poem The Red Robin of Spring in his Kindergarten. However, The names and professions of his parents are unknown.

Death

At the age of 79, he suffered a severe stroke, which weakened his ability to speak. Later on February 5, 2020, (103 years old) he died at his home in Beverly Hills, California. Likewise, On February 7, 2020, his funeral held at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery. And he got buried in the same plot as his son Eric.

He started his career in the United States Navy in 1941 shortly after World War II. Later in 1944, he was medically discharged for injuries sustained from the premature explosion of the depth charge. He always dreamt about being an actor until one day his friend made his dream come true. His friend helped him get his first film role by recommending him to Hal B Wallis, a producer. Hal B Wallis was looking for new talents where he gave Kirk a role. He debuted with Walli’s movie The Strange Love Of Martha Ivers. In 1989 Kirk was established in his eighth movie Champion With producer Stanley Kramer.

After the movie Champion, he succeeded as a star. He overcomes his shyness and later rolls for strong roles. Kirk started giving hit movies and later broke his studio contracts to gain total control over his projects, which made him form his own movie company Bryna productions. The company was named after his mother. Through 1650-1960s Kirk was a major star. He also rolled as Rick Martin in a movie Young man with a horn which was a hit.

He worked in some popular movies like The Devil’s Disciple and Seven Days in May, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, a western drama. Working with director Stanley Kubrick, he also starred in the World War I drama Paths of Glory and Spartacus. In the 1970s he started his career as a director which was less effective. two of his movies from the decade Scalawag and Posse didn’t make much impression on the viewers. However, he later directed popular movies like The Man from Snowy River and Tough Guys.
