Lindsey served as a judge advocate at McEntire Air National Guard Station in Eastover, South Carolina where he helped brief departing pilots on laws of war during the 1990-91 Gulf War. Lindsey was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives from the 2nd district in Oconee County in 1992. Moreover, Lindsey served one term from 1993 to 1995. Lindsey won the US Senator election after longtime US senator Strom Thurmond decided to retire in 2002.
